Expecting more from our food

It is increasingly clear that our global food system requires a more sustainable path forward. As a result, many of us are giving more thought to what we eat and drink—and understanding how this impacts our health, the environment and the communities around us. We make decisions that take the long-term interests of future generations into consideration to benefit people and the planet.

The food we choose to nourish ourselves and our families reflects each of us, and our values. We expect companies and brands to be authentic and transparent when answering our questions.

The power to change our food system, and our world, is within each of us. Every time we eat and drink, we vote for the world in which we want to live.

    we believe this requires a reinvention of our relationship with food. In fact, we’d go so far as to call it an Alimentation Revolution—one for greater well-being—which we are ready to lead, together with consumers, retailers, suppliers and not-for-profits. The objective is to design, produce, market and consume food in new, healthier and more sustainable ways. Through the Alimentation Revolution, we are delivering on our mission to bring health through food to as many people as possible.

    – both for the fundamental needs it serves and the enjoyment it brings us. The profound role food plays in unlocking the health of people and the planet is the central premise behind our parent company Danone’s signature, One Planet, One Health, which invites others to join us in building a healthier world through food. This is the North Star to which we aspire and is represented in our logo.

We are on a journey to bring this commitment to life.

We are not perfect, and there is much to do if we are to achieve our vision. Our priorities include fighting climate change; driving more sustainable ingredient sourcing; advancing packaging recyclability; reducing waste; conserving water; and engaging our communities.

We are also making a tangible commitment to our communities through our longstanding support of some important initiatives:

Breakfast Club of Canada:
For more than 20 years, Breakfast Club of Canada (Club des petits déjeuners in Quebec) has been nurturing children’s potential by making sure as many of them as possible have access to a healthy morning meal in an environment that allows their self-esteem to grow and flourish. Much more than a breakfast program, the BCC promotes the core values of engagement, enrichment and empowerment.

DanoneWave Canada is proud to be a founding sponsor of the Breakfast Club of Canada, which shares our commitment to bringing health through food. Since 1996, we have donated more than 20 million servings of yogurt to support the BCC in their quest to ensure that Canadian children start their day with a balanced breakfast. In addition to product and financial contributions, we believe strongly in the importance of giving our time to help this organization succeed. We are very proud of the volunteer contributions of the passionate and dedicated DanoneWave employees in Boucherville, Mississauga and Calgary who serve meals in schools supported by the BCC.

Danone Volunteering Month:
We are proud to support Danone Volunteering Month every June, in which hundreds of employees across Canada participate in initiatives that support local communities.

Danone Nations Cup:
Initiated by Danone in 1999, the Danone Nations Cup is the world’s biggest soccer tournament for children between the ages of 10 and 12. Since its first edition, the international competition has given hundreds of Canadian children the opportunity to represent their country on the world stage. With a focus on fair play, the Danone Nations Cup is much more than just a tournament: it is a truly unique and memorable experience for every participant, while promoting the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Next Step in Our Journey: Pursuing B Corp Certification

To achieve our mission, Danone–our parent company–is working with B Lab to advance B Corp certifications for its businesses globally. Meanwhile, DanoneWave Canada is committed to pursuing B Corp certification by 2020. B Corp certification is a third-party endorsement that requires companies to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
